Default Higher efficiency woofers?

Hi everyone,

Are there any woofers out there that will net me an F3 in the 40s in a smallish enclosure while giving me ~95db efficiency?

Someone suggested the B&C 12HPL76 woofers for this application, but I wonder if there are other drivers available like this. I'd like to keep the enclosure size down to around 2.5-3.5 FT3 if possible.

P.S. Please do not quote Hoffman's Iron Law I get it.

Thank you,

Blair

Sounds like a PA woofer to me. Does it have to be 12" or could you up it to 15"?

Sure,

I'm trying to build a Focal grande utopia clone or something thereabout. I could accommodate for a 15" driver though as long as it stays in a smallish enclosure, and will work on a fairly narrow baffle. My plans were a curved sided box with a 13.5" front. Any in mind?
Thanks,

Check Zalitron for Audiom 13WX & Audiom 15WX drivers. Just as information for the clone though.

Thanks,

Is that 13.5" front including the radius edges? If so you need to factor-in the amount of baffle effectively "removed" because of the edges. IF that's the case my guess would be that you are looking at a 10" woofer.

Anyway.. what price range?

Qt isn't really high enough for this purpose. Instead look to the FaitalPRO 12PR300 3-3.5 cubic feet.

If you need a smaller diameter driver then look to the Dayton Pro 10 (..cheaper too).

If you can drop the eff. requirement a bit, the SB 12 is a real "sleeper" in a sealed cabinet.

Eighteen sound 8NMB420 - High Output MB Neodymium Driver

8", 95 db sensitivity, fs 61 Hz, X-max 5,75 mm, Vas 33 l.

Maybe this driver can suite your purpose. To my knowledge Eighteen sound does extremely well build and well sounding drivers.

Another suggestion is Beyma 10G40

10", 96 db sensitivity, Fs 55 Hz, X-max 6 mm, Vas 33 l.

Faital Pro has a zero error tolerance in their production line. Here is another nice diver: Faital Pro 10PR300

10", 98 db sensitivity, Fs 60 Hz, X-max 4,92 mm, Vas 38,4 l

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the suggestions!

It is 14.5" across the front baffle, so I'd prefer a 12" driver.

Why 95db? This is what I want after BSC because my mids and tweeters are going to be 95db sensitive and I want to try to keep that sensitivity throughout as much of the bandwidth as possible. I'll post a pic of the profile of the speaker soon.

Thanks,

Blair

Hmm, 1 driver 95db near 50 Hz at 1 watt at 1 meter in a small box AND BSC of at least -4 db.

-Quick, check between his toes!

Said differently, that's not going to happen.

Now double-up the drivers with 16 ohms in parallel to 8 ohms (..and the Faital's have 16 ohm versions), and with a traditional amp you'll get an additional +6db, BUT it will "cost" double the cabinet volume - i.e. 6 cubic feet instead of 3.

You could also do it as a back-horn (or "scoop") with a smaller driver - and one driver only.
