Default Replacement tweeter with "euphonic" sound?

I have a blown soft dome tweeter on a pair of salvaged celestion monitors. I have tried a few different tweeters on there quickly but none seem to match the sound of the original. Its hard to describe but the sound is warm yet detailed and dynamic. I guess you could say "lush" sounding with a pleasant colouration. Maybe it has someting to do with even order distortion plus a bit of odd order to give it a bit of zing - just a guess.

Does anyone know a modern replacement with these characteristics to try? Crossed at 2.5k or lower. I cant hear over 14k so doesnt need to have great extension or "air".

Were you setting the level of the other tweeters when you tried them?

No but most of them are in the ballpark efficiency wise, 1-2db difference. I think the sound characteristic of the celestion tweeters is very different to modern drivers that focus on low distortion and minimal colouration. Celestion have a history of tuning drivers to achieve a particular "tone", such as their early guitar speakers. I think this "dark art" was carried over into some of the 70 hi-fi designs. I have to say, from what I have heard, they were very good at it.

Although this may not be of help, one distinguishing feature of older tweeters, being cone tweeters, was the way they beam at the top end. Dome tweeters really are "all that" but it may be a bit too much for some.
