I have heard of damping around the midranges but I have mids with damping against the cone. I am a bit new to this but it looks odd to me. The material is like insulation and is still soft after about 30 years or so. Should I just leave this stuff alone or try to renew it before I refoam?

Apparently this fibrous, acoustic damping material remains viable, so leave in place. However, under no circumstances should it come in contact with the driver's moving system. Restrain it with netting tacked to the side walls of the enclosure.
