Default Tuning my room. Please help.

Here is my problem:
I recently purchased a good toslink card for my computer and a digital mixing console. It works and sounds great. I couple of years ago. I made some recordings that I think sound quite decent. I have played them in my new house and everything is out to lunch.

I am using a Harman Kardon HK 770 which I found to be transparent yet no to powerful for near field listening. Last week I was using RFT K13 speakers which I find (contrary to popular opinion) to be incredibly transparent with a paradigm Subwoofer. I donated the Subwoofer to my Girlfriends home theater because it's more of an air pump than a woofer.

I had some M & K SX-7 (Minimus 7ish) speakers and aquired a M & K VX-7 sealed 8" subwoofer to match them.

The M & K should ( by assumption) sound very nice but they sound glorified and beautiful but do not real the full body and vocals on a depeche Mode song I like yet my $20 thumbs down RFT K13 reveal that valuable detail.

Either the RFT reveal too much or the M & K SX-7 are not revealing enough. I did refoam the M & K and maybe they need to be abused a little.

I really need to get my sound right so I can get back doing my work without doing it all wrong.

I have an RTA Mic, software as well, my mixer has tone generators but only about some frequencies across the spectrum ( 30, 100, 500, 1k, 3k, 6k, 10k, 15k)

Please help me to get a sound strategy.
Thanks

You need to treat your room If you want to mix accurately. Rooms do more harm to the frequency response than any speaker or equipment ever will. There is no sub-forum for room treatment here unfortunately so I recommend you visit this forum:

Gearslutz.com

The locals are very knowledgable about room treatment and acoustics. The best "upgrade" to my home system came from the advice I got from there. Good luck!
