For a total newbie buying a kit may be a good idea. Keeps things simple and you'll learn a few things while building.

I've used their higher end GF 200 woofers and I'm very satisfied with the performance. This Visaton speaker is in a different league though, but the units used are decent with a smooth response. For an affordable first speaker, I think this is a good choice.

it is as good as buying a kit only. i mean i will be getting the wood work done by a local carpenter as per the design given in the link. the only DIY i shall be doing is Xover network and suitable preamp and power amp design. in India visaton is not really popular (infact very less people have heard of this), so i have concerns over its quality of sound. thanks for the reply.

Hi,

I never heard this speaker but the design seems well done. You should be not disappointed.

Have fun.

I like visaton they supply a lot of data, on thier forum is great free software boxsim.
Visaton is also very stable what their program concerns they not make one year this the other year some thing else. They produce their popular chassis many years.
Your kit has a super low thd mid and a ceramic dome tweeter users see it as a budget highend ceramic dome. It will be a low thd design for real bass you will need a sub.

Sorry I thought you ment this kit bijuo.http://www.visaton.de/en/bauvorschla...jou/index.html

The cluo is a nice low cost standbox the WS17 is a very nice good classsic papercone.

+1 @ Helmuth.
Generally i agree and i like the free sim software. I am currently building a tl using the al130 and g20sc. The enclosure and xover loosely based on the visaton vib130tl kit. Xover is slightly modified and the box designed using mjks worksheets. I have been very impressed so far. Visatons published specs are more accurate than many vendors and boxsim is a powerful tool. Few manufacturers go to these lengths, a fact that speaks for itself. Some of the drivers arent what i would call cheap BUT justified. If scan speak or seas had such a dedication to diy and simware, frd and zma support then i would be more inclined to buy from them.

thanks mondogenerator.
one thing is being a beginner in speaker DIY, i am blindly following the reference design of Clou as in the Visaton link. I am not sure if its well optimized but i believe there is always room for improvement. can i go ahead with reference design for now or should i consider to modify anything in the design to achieve better results?

why dont you go with the vib2000gf ?

Visaton - Lautsprecher und Zubehör, Loudspeakers and Accessories

i use the gf200 in my diy speakers and it´s a very good woofer , the last place you want to save money building a system is the speakers

WS 17 E woofers are available through a distributor in India at an affordable price. other models I have to order from online shops which would cost me more on adding customs+tax+shipping. so i am sticking to WS 17 E woofers for now.
