For space and aesthetic reasons I'm considering suspending a sealed 2 way from the ceiling via steel cables (9' ceiling with speakers approx. 1m from the floor)
In terms or sound quality, does the idea provide any advantages? Or is a solidly constructed stand far better? Thanks Ryan |

In my opinion, it being so purely decoupled would make for a very simple action vs reaction system. What I mean is that the box will move back and forth out of phase with the woofer, and in some ratio of the mass of the cone to the mass of the box. Although the box will be moving, it won't be moving much.
If you want the box to move even less, I would mount a second woofer on the back of the box; a bipolar configuration. This will cancel the motion, and fill in for baffle step. Either way, the decoupling from the floor should result in a really clean sound. Go for it! |

Sounds like a sound idea to me.

It does, but more of the benefit is in getting rid of the box and supporting the drivers more from their center of mass. In two way, the endpoint of that line of reasoning is something like this, though it works better to do something like this or this.
