Like many rules of thumb, it is based in fact, but you should delve more deeply into why that is: directivity, volume displacement, lobing, etc.What do you think of that what some says only 3-4 octaves should be covered by one driver, no matter how response it has?

How bout two 10F's in an MTM config with a NeoCD3.0 ribbon?
There is no need to go MTM unless you require the extra SPL or if you want to try and bring some control into the directivity in the vertical off axis.
The 10F imo is the one driver in this system that you don't want to change, it offers superb measured performance and should be very easy to work with.
