Default 4 ohm bass drvers vrs 8 ohm help!!!

gday all
i have mistakenly ordered 4 ohm bass drivers instead of 8 ohm to use in a 3 way design using ss 2905 9900 tweets, ss 18w8531goo as mid and ss 26w4534g as bass

each cab will have a passive crossover same as troels "jenson " for the mid and tweet

the bass drivers i was planning on running active ,2 per cab connected in parralell in a wtmw arrangement but being 4 ohm this will result in a 2 ohm load , is this ok ,what about series connection instead ?
or should i just get an amp that is happy with 2 ohm to run the bass section

i was going to use a pro amp for the active bass section and a f4 clone per speaker for each passive mid/ high section

also what is best ,,just run the 2 bass drivers per cab over the same frequency or maybe use one as baffle step compensation like a 3.5 way as such

cheers sheafer

No amp will ever be happy with 2 Ohm loads ! It has to be a 'macho' amp and maybe you could think to dedicate a stereo amp to each woofer section . I see that 'pro' amps can be found at cheap prices , and using two of them would be still less expensive that finding an amplifier capable of driving such low loads ;also some car amps are declared stable till 0.5 Ohm.

hi
thanks for your help ,i was afraid this is the case
your idea of using 2 amps for the bass section is a good solution although one that would cost extra money i didnt want to spend

what about series connection instead of parrallel ,this would give me 8 ohm per pair as i understand it but are there any disadvantages to this

You could get an amp that has no problem running 2 Ohm, maybe that's a bit less costly than 2 amps.
There's nothing against putting two 4 Ohm speakers in series to get 8 Ohm charge per channel on the amp. Just a few dB SPL that you won't get out of the low end because power in 8 Ohm is less than on 4 Ohm, but we're talking about 2-3dB. It depends on your SPL needs in that region. If your calculation was a bit on the safe side about amp power, it can work nicely.

Since your system will have an active bass section, the situation can be salvaged. You can definitely hook up the two woofers in series. There will be a 3 dB drop in apparent sensitivity when compared to the original plan, which can be compensated by adjusting the input level of the bass amps. As for the alternative, I think it is quite plain that any given amplifier will play better with a nominal 8 Ohm load compared to a nominal 2 Ohm load.

What's the make and model of the amplifier you're planning on using for the bass section?
