my latest project is a *high fidelity* bass guitar speaker, something i can play at home that will have hopefully much better tone then your average bass guitar amp/speaker combo.
weather its right or wrong in theory i want to use a 3 way cross over. i purchased and received this recently, INFINITY REFERENCE 60 3 WAY PASSIVE CROSSOVERS 4ohm NEW - eBay (item 390293772393 end time Aug-28-11 16:23:48 PDT) it has 2 separate outputs for the woofer (as the speakers it is designed for used 2 x woofers) i failed to notice this before purchasing my question is, can i use just 1 woofer output or can i somehow use both outputs connected to 1 woofer, and what would that do to x over point and slope and ohms that the amp would see etc??? id like to be able to use 200 watts on the woofer section (which is what the 3 way x over is rated at) any help/advice appreciated....... |

Well...using a passive crossover with drivers it wasn't designed for won't work as expected, rolloff slopes and driver levels probably won't be right. Since that crossover is rated for 4 ohms, they are most likely using two 8 ohm woofers in parallel, so I'm guessing if you hook up one 4 ohm woofer it will "work". Having said that, if you allready have everything, no problem trying it to see how it sounds.

A passive crossover is designed to be used only with a specific set of drivers. An active crossover can be used with any drivers.
I suggest you look in to and buy the latter type and some amps, or learn how to build a proper passive crossover (not easy). -Charlie |

If I'm right, it won't really matter if you use one or both as long you keep polarities correct, so try it with just one lead to the woofer.

so if im understanding this correctly,
the woofer section of this crossover behaves *more or less* the same if i connect, 2 x 8 ohm woofers to both woofer outputs, (shows amp 4 ohms) or 1 x 4 ohm woofer to just 1 woofer output? (shows amp 4 ohms) makes sense to me 'kinda' ?? Last edited by 60ndown; 6th August 2011 at 06:00 PM. |

Which other drivers are you using? a mid-range that will cover 250 to 4,000 Hz won't be cheap.
