Why not just turn down the treble? or put a resistor in series with the tweeter lead? Trying to make a filter out of speaker cables seems like way and away the hardest method and least likely to succeed.

There is an even easier way: keep toeing the speakers in, until their axes cross in front of the listening seat. Unless their horizontal dispersion is severely askew (which means you should not have bought them in the first place), you are bound to reach a satisfactory balance at some angle or other.

I personally would use the thickest, or smallest gauge speaker wire that I can find. Monster or some homeowner supply store should give you 10 gauge or less. This way you get better bass damping, AND the eddy current loss working in your favor. No fancy wound cables please, they are too 'accurate' for your needs.

I should have said: 'lowest gage' I suspect.
