Default VISATON WS20e QUESTION

i like visaton units .....possible sound in a reasonable prize

the question is about this unit Visaton - Lautsprecher und Zubehör, Loudspeakers and Accessories

i am using this and tryied it in almost 5-6 combination
sealed enclosure
bass reflex enclosure
second order xover
second /third order xoover
third /fourth order xover
played to x over frequencies 2.000 and above and up to 4.300

now the problem is that no matter the enclosure or the xover that actually produced better bass due to the reflex and lower also ...and wonderfull high due to the xover but also the tweeter itshelf

in any of the combination there is obvious absense of midle also seems that midle is present but will need some ammout of power to come "up"

in low listening levels the midle is quiet poor ...looking at the graph i think that the unit is a wise choise for a two way speaker but still at low listening levels seems that this is a problem

any input ?

Maybe it's the woofer sound itself, but you can simulated what it does nicely with Boxsim, it includes all Visaton drivers. Boxsim - Homepage

That's odd that the midrange is lacking, especially considering that the chart for that driver shows a gradual increase in output from 300Hz all the way up to 3kHz, over an 8dB range.

Possibly a dumb question, but you ARE designing the XO for 4 ohms and not 8 ohms, correct?

The reason I ask is because you are designing the XO for an 8 ohm driver, the XO point will be only half the desired target on a 4 ohm driver.

Then you linked to the wrong driver.

You are not actually calculating a passive crossover for a real impedance, are you?

What size box have you used, and what frequency is it tuned to?
This is a High Q driver, really only suitable for Open Baffle; most sealed and vented boxes, unless huge, will have a large peak at the low end, giving the impression of missing mids....
