I am trying to set up some nearfield for monitoring. You could say trust my ears but they still need to be trained. I have been using minimus 7 for a while but have these 760i sitting here. I am wondering if they would be better to work with.
Thanks |

I have both and would choose the Missions but it's really up to you. We can't tell you what sounds better. They both have good things about them. Why not set them up on an A/B and switch them back and forth every once in a while and see?

I have actually A/B Optimus PRO 7AV's and Mission 760i's for near field computer listening and ended up going with the Optimus 7's. At higher listening levels the Missions took over but for sitting 3-4 feet from the speakers at moderate volumes it was an easy choice for me......of course that was like 20 pairs of speakers ago

Some pretty well respected brains worked on the minimus 7 crossover on this thread Minimus 7 Loudspeakers - Measurements - Page 13 - AudioKarma.org Home Audio Stereo Discussion Forums
I've jumped you straight to the page with the final version and parts list in post 191 I'm just ordering my crossover parts now

That only works if you are a member there. Can you post the list here for us?
Thanks. |

These are from post 191 by a fellow called Zilch - he sadly passed away in Feb 4th this year but I'm sure he would be pleased his efforts are still helping make audio enthusiasts happy
Part numbers are still correct but prices have changed slightly

I have quite a few of those minimus 7. Sound better than the one-way Bose that are in slighly larger fiberglass-impregnated nylon cabinets, though the Bose use a much better driver.
But I prefer a later slightly larger RCA-badged pair from Radio Shack with the Linaeum leaf tweeter and a slightly larger mid-bass driver in a slightly larger die-cast aluminum box. Not the ones with the big Linaeum double-drum on the top with a seperate omni removable grille on top of the box (they sold a more of those and I don't know much about them), but these have some kind of uni-directional mid-tweeter that mounts on a flat plate. They look just like a slightly larger minimus. Anyway, they sound really great IMHO. I have them hooked to an old Kenwood in my bedroom mounted off the wall, and all they need is a subwoofer. Even with television thru them I'm often blown away by the treble definition, very natural IMHO. |
