Default DEQ2496/DCX2496 instead of Crossover in 2-way

I'm wondering if it's possible to amplify before either a DEQ2496 or DCX2496 and then apply the necessary crossover instead of building an analog crossover that is housed inside the speaker cabinet. I don't want to have to have a separate amp for the tweeter and mid, just one. Is this possible?

Source ---> Amp ---> DCX/DEQ2496 ===> Tweeter, Mid (separate connections for each)

Basically, I'm trying to avoid having to pay for crossover components (~ $150) when I'm already going to be buying one of these devices anyway.

You don't amplify before the DCX/DEQ, but after it. So what you're asking is unclear.

Still - you can run a 2-way active with a passive high pass for the tweeter. I do.

I would too if I went active, I'd be afraid that a DC on/off transient would consume my tweeters.

I think he's asking can he use DEQ/DCX as a programmable passive XO. The answer's a very clear no. If you want active adding another amp is not optional, its essential.

Yes, I think that might have been the question. It was just too bizarre for me to contemplate!

DrDyna - I use a lower power tube amp, so no DC thump. Pro tweeters, too, so pretty rugged.

That's what I figured. Darn! So the question now is, which is better? Another amp after the active XO or use a passive XO in the actual speaker cabinet?

One advantage to having a separate amp for tweeter and mid would be that I could control tweeter and mid volume independently. The downside is, I'd have to control tweeter and mid volume independently. Anyone have any experience with this instead of a simple passive XO in the speaker and a single amp?

If you have the DCX - use an amp. You won't need much power for the tweeter.

I've already got a Behringer A500. Haven't bought the DCX or passive XO components yet. Here's the speaker XO i'm trying to replicate digitally SB Acoustics 2-Way : Final Crossovers. It's the LR4 @ 2Khz Alt. Will this even be possible to do with the DCX or DEQ?

With the DCX, yes. Not with the DEQ.
