Default Classic Polk designs anyone?

Has anyone DIY'd a Polk SDA SRS or even Monitor 10b or 12. When I young these were THE hot speakers. Few of us could afford them at the time.

Fast forward ___ years and I'm thinking Monitor series wouldn't be to hard to replicate with modern drivers and get the nostalgic look. I think the SDA SRS would be quite a lot tougher, but I would love to see any designs, build pics, parts lists..etc for classic Polk designs. Maybe I'll give one a try.

Thanks all.

Fortunately, they're pretty widely available with a bit of patience and looking, even the big SDA's. I have a few of them at home. I've also modded quite a few, both for myself and other people. With the right upgrades, they actually turn out to be some pretty nice speakers, sonically and cosmetically.

But, those original 3/4" thick particle board cabinets are always a limitation. It would be neat just to use the original drivers and DIY a set of acoustically dead cabinets for them and hear the results. I think on my set of Monitor 10's, I going to use the existing cabs and attach an outer MDF layer, with a sand-filled layer in between and see how that goes.

FWIW, Polk stocks replacements for a lot of those original 6.5" mid-bass drivers, along with silk dome tweeters that are drop-in replacements for original tweeters from the Peerless through the fish-eye poly's through the metal dome tri-laminates. They're all about $50 per driver for Polk Audio forum members.
