I am in the beginnings of spinning a two-way design and one of the problems is finding good transducers that meet the low end requirements and a good mate for the higher frequency requirements.
Typically, this means a pretty low crossover frequency of about 1 to 2 kHz. Normally a compression driver is the answer, but... The Air Motion Transformers made by Beyma and RAAL seem like they might make a very good alternative with reasonably high sensitivities. I would like to mate these to a pair of Acoustic Elegance TD15H drivers I have sitting idle at the moment. These would be used for home HiFi, driven by my 50 WPC tube amp. The downside is the expense, but are these drivers really worth their salt? They seem intriguing and I would be interested in hearing other people's experiences with these drivers. |

It's been around for a while and it would be good if there was more information and design tips. I am not that much of an expert at being on the tip of the spear on this one. Easier to follow a beaten path. |

Next year (allegedly) Beyma are launching an updated version of TPL150/H with larger magnet assembly for higher BL factor (thus improved sensitivity) and also new diaphragm material which can handle approx 40% more heat disipation / watts power handling. I believe there will be two versions, and they will have the same basic size / geometry as the existing model (ie. same 5 inch ribbon size - just more output - with the same original 230mm square aluminium horn mouth) so should be a simple replacement upgrade from any existing TPL150 models, without needing to saw a new baffle hole or anything. Hopefully prices for new models should be reasonably similar to existing model, however that could end up becoming quite expensive by next year anyway because cost of neodymium is currently going up and up every month, hence Beyma's recent launch of several new ferrite versions of some of their existing neo drivers.
