After building many speakers over the years I went active crossover tri-amping. I find this set up very flexible, the original idea was to decide on cross frequencies and then build a passive crossover to match. In practice I now have the woofer section separate and play about with piggy back units for mid and high. I get the best results with a fullrange for a mid, I cross as low as possible from the woofer and as high as possible to the tweeter. This way I get the most uncoloured and natural results with a good fullrange (Jordan 92s) and it is very easy to experiment with the tweeter as I have full control over cross and level. I have two active units, one is 12db per octave and the other 24db. Does any one else work this way and if so what is your favourite fuulrange to use as a mid. microx.

Ah! a kindred spirit. I tried OB with the Jordan but could not get what I wanted. Also I have a pair of AMT tweeters that I got off German ebay a few years back. When used as an OB dipole they sound great and I can cross low at 1.5khz, a very under-used type of driver in my opinion, maybe it's the price.
