I am thinking of moving from Dayton DC300s to Eminence Delta 12LFAs in my 170 liter cabinets. This is because one of my Daytons is defective and its going to cost too much for me to ship it back to the USA and get a replacement, and the Eminence is available here at a very favourable price.
Thing is that the Dayton has its fs in the low 20s and the Eminence's fs is in the mid 40s. I have no complaints about the sound quality of the Daytons, only the build quality/consistency... Am I going to severely miss the low bass of the Daytons? Or am I over estimating the value of <40 Hz frequencies... The room is about 220 sq. ft. and the speakers will be used for both music and movies. Most of the listening will be at low levels... which is where the Daytons shine... can hear very low frequencies at very low volumes... So... Eminence Delta 12LFA v/s Dayton DC300s in a large ported cabinet? |

IMO the Delta-12LFA is more suited for a midbass PA use rather than a hi-fi bass like the DC-300.

The Eminence may look conventional but don't let that convince you that they don't sound good. The Eminences are more efficient though, so I guess you were expecting to adjust the crossover.

Its a Zilch designed 'Econowave' crossover with an L-Pad for the tweeter.

Very good
I use Delta 15LFAs in a similar style of speaker where I cut them out at around 1kHz. The bass is not a problem as it is more important what they can do in the midrange, and I use subs. |

My LFAs are in closed boxes. I don't use the subs for that reason, I use them to deal with room modes so I'm happy that way, but they sound OK even with the subs turned off. I'm sure I could get deep bass out of them if I had the need...and a large cabinet
