I'm sorry if this is in the wrong area, but it seems to fit here best. Please move it if it needs to be.
So, kinda funny how this happened. Just got into records, and have been enjoying them on the turntable and stereo setup my dad has in our basement. Very nice system. Anyways, for a while now I have thought how cool it would be to have a fairly decent PA system that was portable enough to be dragged around in a car, and setup in parking lots, friends houses, or even in the park. Basically, its a portable system to play records for other people to hear. I want it to sound good (doesn't need to be amazing) and have enough force to drive some really awesome dubstep (and some real smooth jazz). Anways, it wasn't until today that it dawned on me, "hey...I can do this!" I love projects, although my skills are, well, nothing and I am just a kid (18). But I ran it past a friend, and we definitely want to do this. Now, as I said, I am a kid. That means: budget. I have been researching how to do this, but it seems the setup I want to do is, well, a little odd ball. So I came here trying to figure out some problems. First: What kind of system do I need for all outdoor use that will have enough power? I know this sin't very specific, but bear with me if you can, as I have little experience. There is someone selling a Fender Squire PA system (80watts) on craiglist for $125. Is this a good system? Reviews seem to indicate it is. $150 is really all I am willing to spend on a system...maybe I would consider more, but this is not a huge project. Second: What do I need exactly? Besides the PA system, I would need a re-amp to amplify the turntable, but I don't even know where to begin with those? Anyone here have experience wit those? Also, my dad will not let me use his record player, so I will need to get my own. Good player? Remember, I am on a budget. I was looking at some sony's, but a bunch of audiophiles were rippin' on them. I dunno. Third(ly?): This is gonna be portable. How should I accomplish this? I would like to just have it wired to a battery (or batteries), but I don't know how practical this is. Would wiring to a car be better? If so, it would need to be easily removable. Uhhh, I think that is it for now. So for all the questions, but I am bit over my head at this point. I appreciate any help, thank you. |

I think you are one the wrong forum. This is a forum for people who like to build their own stuff. Also: setting up a PA system in a park or parking lot? You might need a permit for that. Check your local ordinances.

Uhhmmmm ...energy !?!? This factor is indispensable for making all the things going on ,maybe it could be called addendum ,because the sum of all the electronics power consumption will tell how much power is needed .
Energy costs . Beside you are going to build a 'green certified' or 'power hungry' system ,you'll have to face the problem . Energy stinks . You are not eating a snack ,but having a big pic-nic at the park ,you're going to display all your food on the blankets on the grass ,ants will come . So maybe better a drive thru lunch inside the car PA gear seems good for the purpose , a superficial ,not deep insight of speaker's characteristics will tell you that professional speakers are much more efficient ( power in / power out ) so you would need less power to obtain a given output ; but high efficiency means also big radiant area ...and also distance from the audience ,sound projection ,etc etc it's not a boombox or an old ghettoblaster revisited . Ok ,so now I had put two slices of bread for the sandwich . What would you like in between ? |

$150 is tight...
Batteries if you want true portability. DC converters if only using one battery. If not PSUs. Amps. Drivers. Crossovers. Wood. Jacks volume control all that small stuff. And then something to paint it with. Tbh I don't think you can really do something for that price. Theres a project I think you want to do sort of on another forum I go on I'll see if I can find it.
