Default Window Sill Mounted vs Stand Speakers in Existing Space

I would like to know which of the options below will (if any) have significantly different sound quality if crossovers are properly / well designed for each specific scenario.

The room is about 12' wide, 7' tall and 17' deep. I plan to do a CIH setup with a 100" x 42" 2.39:1 screen (pull-down). There is an existing recess (window, cannot be filled) behind planned screen location that measures 76" wide, 53" tall and 9" deep. I am particularly concerned about reduced sound quality as a result of mounting the speakers in the recess.

If you had this space, would you choose:
  • A - Stand mounted setup: lose significant floor space when not using projector (but allowing LR width of 45 deg+ and reducing crossover tweaking)
  • B - Recess mount: compromise sound quality by installing the speakers in the recess and reduce image width to 40 deg (but gain floor space in room)
  • C - AT Screen setup: compromise sound quality by installing the speakers in the recess and reduce image width to 40 deg (but improving vertical location)

Thanks,
Chris

a. will sound the same all the time, but take up space.
b. will sound the same all the time, best if you only have one eq preset.
c. will sound very bright with the screen up if eq'd for sound with the screen down. If you have multiple eq presets this will work best for surround.

edit: I'd lower the screen if i were you, i find half way between the floor and ceiling is best.

I do only have room for one row of seating, so lowering the screen may be an option. The ceiling is only 7', however, so halfway puts the bottom of the screen only 1'9" off the floor which may be too low. I'll have to think about that one.

I do want something that works in general without much change... so I'll consider C out of the running.

Thanks - Chris

If your screen is good like my Targa it is not a good idea to put speakers behind it. It is not transparent for sound.

slightly lower is not bad, our heads are put on our necks at an angle that prefers it....

I do not yet have a screen. If I were to put the speakers behind the screen, I would choose an AT screen. It looks like that will not be the case, though.

Looking straight forward would be nice. If sound quality is jeopardized by placing the speakers on the sill, they will be stand mounted which would dictate the lowest position of the screen.

It sounds like the sill mounted option with a lower screen may be a good possibility. I'm still not really sure whether the sill mounted speakers with all of the close boundaries justify the floor space.

Could the speakers in position A be placed at the front edge of a short table (or perhaps on short stands at the front edge of a short table)?
