Daniel Hertz Levinson M1 wow

hi all
i just found some pics of this amazing speaker on the net M1
first impression is WOW its big
i wonder how it sounds

i,ve been looking for ages for a design like this to use as a base for my next diy speakers but how would a 12" driver go producing midrange ?

and what about a compression driver for highs ,i know they use them alot in the pro industry but are they good enough for home audiophiles

any way i reckon they look grouse and would proberbly blow your socks off

any oppinions ?

regards sheafer

A real brawl about Daniel Hertz M1 speakers at the Axpona show!!

Agreed about the price.

does anyone actually think they look good?

They look as tacky as you can get in my book.
So I take it you're not going to add chrome rings to your drivers now? I guess you're afraid of being labelled a 'copy cat'.

The blog linked was hilarious.

hi all
i love the look of em !!!!
and price is not relevent for us as we are diy addicts all we need to know is what drivers they use and what can we use as substitutes
Don't worry at all what they use, there are plenty of other great units out there from a number of brands.

i would love to diy something crazy like these using pro drivers
and have already been checking out suitable drivers

cheers sheafer
Not crazy, fairly mainstream for some of us.

It could sound OK, but we'll probably never know.

Geddes uses them (and 10's and 15's) in his designs with good results. I use 10's and think they're excellent.

Yes, but like everything, there are good and less than good drivers and flares. A sane starting point for a CD is the B&C DE250 and the JBL Ewave flare.

hi brett
i was just looking at some of the paudio drivers at cannon sound in aus
they seem to be well priced and have all the drivers to build something similar

mid - P.Audio SN-10MB Series II 10 Inch 600w Neo Mid Bass - Public Address Systems | Portable PA Systems | DJ Equipment & Lighting

bass-http://www.cannonsound.com.au/p/577288/paudio-c18-600lf-600-watt-18-inch-low-frequency.html

high-http://www.cannonsound.com.au/c/192500/3/compression-drivers-and-tweeters.html
or maybee these Celestion CD2-3065 2 Inch Bolt-on Compression Drivers (Pair) - Public Address Systems | Portable PA Systems | DJ Equipment & Lighting

Nothing to say
They copied my design
Quite basic : big volume for a big woofer ,which has to be necessarily near the floor to keep efficiency with the mid&tw ; the box being tilted to accomodate the offset of mid&tw ; crossover made accessible to change the parts  that's me ! and also mechanically isolated ; port (s) on the bottom front ....that is a big compromise ...I would have had it preferably on the back or on the bottom ,but I choosed to keep it on the front because of my little room and their positioning near the walls.
Ok ,mines are 12"+6.5"+1" dome at 94 dB/W/m and costed me about 300$ ,and I don't think they can handle more than 100W :p

I've used a lot of PAudio stuff over the years (still have maybe 10 drivers) and it's OK, but generally nothing special. You can do better with other drivers either locally or imported esp with the $ so high.

The 2" CD will start breaking up somewhere after 8-10k so you'll need something above it, which is why I suggested a 1" driver. Good 2" flares are less common and generally more expensive. With few exceptions, I'm not fond of Ti diaphragms.

PS: Wayne's article is also well worth reading.

Hi Brett
Someone selling the Gedde's Nathan kit on SNA could you use it for mid & treble an add a pair of 15"s or a 18" driver for bass duties .

hi all
i agree with those that say the design is basic with not much imagination ,but i for one prefer this look (shoot me but i also like the crome dress rings as well)
kinda like a osbourne grand monument plain looking but special in its own way

i also belive that as long as it works then why does it have to look fancy
it looks like the old style jbl and such bookshelfs big mean and loud but i think knowing the designers other products that it would also have a level of finese as well

hi 56 i,m just dreaming at the moment but the torana is about to go on the market and i will have some spare cash soon for my ultimate blow my room apart project ,big ,bad ,and ugly and using some 18 or 21" drivers of course !!!

got any pics of yours mal i,m keen to see them post them in this thread if you like

cheers sheafer

those threads and blogs are incredibly funny, Heinrich had me in tears

and i do tend to agree the things are just plain boring, but rather ostentatious. if spending money on rings like that i would go for titanium anyday
