Default 4-way: Please comment on this proposed prosed

My crazy friend wants to build a 4-way. We have this thing where he gets the itch, I design, and he goes off and builds it.

Now he wants a 4-way. I have the following drivers on hand:

Morel MDM-55
Hi-Vi D6.8
Hi-Vi M8a

I'm still looking around for a nice small ribbon tweeter to match.

The aim here is not the utmost accuracy, but rather a smooth, romantic sound.

Any ideas on whether this combo will work?

You can only do your best Smooth and romantic? Has your friend considered a fullrange driver?

strange choise of drivers
woofer is rather small for a big 4way

If you insist on 4 drivers, think 2.5way with supertweet
its possible
and it doesn't have to be complicated
but still not easy without experience

to me a 4 way should have a 15" woofer, otherwise what is the point over a 3 way? 4 way also alows the usage of drivers with relativly narrow usable bandwidths but excelent properties in the usable range (like dome midrange). I heard a dome midrange speaker (NS1000M I think) once and it had and the midrange was amazing, mainly in that no matter the position in the room it sounded good showing excelent dispersion.

Thankfully, I don't have that problem with him.

I could probably double up on the M8a's. Driver "choice" is dictated by what's available to us, mostly.

I know it well. I owned a pair once.

Thanks for the comments so far. Seems like I'm not thinking big enough, as far as concerns the woofer. Will look into getting something bigger, but I suspect that 12" will be the max he'll go for.
