Default First DIY Speakers Advice

Hi,
Well, I decided I would like to build myself some speakers. Originally I wanted to build a pair of replacement floorstanders for my aging Accoustic AV-120's which have served me well over the years.
Seeing the work involved with building the ones I want ... I decided its a great reason to build a pair of smaller speakers first to get a feel for things. They will be used for two things, as rear surrounds for my HT set up and also in another location for music enjoyment.
After spending hours online I have decided I'd like to build a pair of Swan Tempus using information on Daniel Bolduc's website. I'd like to alter the cabinet design a little by equally reducing the lower and increasing the upper baffle dimensions to make the cabinet rectangular. This will allow me to lower the position of the woofer and use a surface mounted tweeter instead of a top mounted one.
I'm looking to use these as the speakers:
Tweeters HiVi X1A
Woofers HiVi F6

Does anyone have any comments or suggestions before I go and order the cross over components and speakers?

Cheers,
19

I would make sure it is not an exact square inside the box

The standing waves love perfect squares so use all your scrap to make sure the sound waves get broken up. Add a little bit of additional air space to make up for the additional wood you will add to the inside.

I've been a fan of the transmission line ever since I first heard one of the small PMC's and subsequently built my own full range MLTL a la MJK.

:)ensen.

Ok, I was going to offset the brace the same as in the Fonken design.
I was wondering if adding features to the inside of the box would help at all? Rough ideas below:

Sorry for the large images, not sure how to make them show as Attached Thumbs?

Thanks Tinitus, got the link from a post in introductions By the way, how do oyu find tinitus affects you? Bit off topic here, I ask as I suffer from tinitus too and its a nightmare as in places with a lot of 'busy' noise like rowdy pubs, I cant here a think people are saying right in front of me. Same with dinner parties, lots of people talking and I struggle to hear a conversation with someone over the table from me. However I find I've got exremely sensative hearing, like I will hear things my girlfriend cant ... to the point where I left my PC turned on at the wall one night (was in the bedroom in old house) and I could hear the hiss of the of the speakers that were still turned on ( I guess its the capacitors in the power supply) ... worse than that, they were picking up interferance from the bass of someones setero in another house. I couldnt hear their stereo, but I could hear the tone change in the faint hiss from the speakers, bizarre!!!
