Attached is a simulation of a 3-way that I have not yet built. Look at the small peak around 5K. This is theoretically caused by phase irregularity of the midwoofer, which may exist only in simulation (or not?). The midwoofer response itself is well down a few dB.
I don't feel comfortable with this peak. Is this peak normal, or something wrong with the interpolation that I made? Is this audible?

Not worth worrying about IMO.

If you look at the amplitude of the peak, you will think that it is just a safe 1dB. But when you look at the shape, it's like port resonance...

If you are talking about the very sharp feature in the system curve (black curve), I don't think that is real. Note that the red curve (tweeter only) does not have that feature and I don't see how the woofer could be causing it either. I am guessing that it is some sort of calculation artifact from your software.

Looking from the woofer response curve around 5K, I think I "SPL-traced" it (I don't remember because I didn't give proper name to my FRD files). And I'm not sure whether the end SPL response is on-axis or off-axis. Thus the phase response is also an interpolation (a big approximation). I don't know if in reality the phase response is like that or not. Hopefully, this is something that is not critical. I use this method of "approximation" because I know that I would rely more on my ears than the software, so I didn't think that precision is an issue. |

If you think that's significant, take a look at it above and below axis.

Hmmm... okay so I suppose this is okay as I thought. I just never seen something like this from my other files, or from some charts on the net.
Thanks everyone. |
