Default Measurement equipment ?

Hi Guys,

I've got a copy of LspCAD on it's way and also a calibrated, Behringer ECM8000 mic, mic stand and XLR cable - but what do I need to connect this lot up to a laptop ?

I was thinking an M-audio Firewire Solo would do the job. Or is there something better or cheaper that would do the job ?

M-audio mobilePre USB is a popular choice.

I'm sure I read somewhere that firewire was better. Does anyone know if this is true ?

Why would it be remotely better for measurements? There isnt a speed requirement here so firewire is pointless over USB. Just seems like a waste of $$$.

You will also need phantom power for your mic. The mobilepre offers that while the firewire solo might not.

Many are already using the mobilepre to measure and build with success so there is no need bother finding something different.

Without the presence of facts they are just Opinions ! Keep that in mind WRT the (fire-wire,USB).I would do some research on this and not from the same sources. Get as many points of view or actual test comparisons that are legitimate.

I use a New M-Audio Fast Track Pro, that I got on eBay fairly cheap.Calibrated ECM-8000,stand,XLR cables, and the easiest software for the Newbie like me was HolmImpulse. The other softwares out there are a bit more complicated so I would recommend you start with the easiest which works well until you get used to the measuring thing for a bit.

Waste of time to debate latency from a thread in 2007 when doing measurements

All you need to know is that there are many, many, many succesful speaker design projects that use the mobilepre. Atleast the solo has phantom power so if you are still not convinced then why do you have a thread?? Just buy it and measure, you waste more time and $$$ thinking about then just doing something.

I'd rather use USB because it's more common than firewire, so gives me more options. My laptop has firewire but my PC doesn't. Perhaps i'll just go for the an M-audio USB job.

I'm sure lspCAD is going to cause lots of head scratching, but when I was searching for easy to use beginers software, lspCAD seemed like one of the better ones (It seems none are easy to use though). I also like the fact that JustMLS comes bundle with it, so in theory there shouldn't be any problem importing data from JustMSL to lspCAD.

Once my software arrives and everything is set-up, i'm sure my next thread will be called "How the F**K do I get this to work ?"

Well it looks like I should have followed my own instinct and not bought the M-Audio Mobilepre.

I can't get it to work in two channel mode and after a bit of googling, I noticed someone else couldn't get the Mobilepre to work in two channel mode with Justmls.

I've ordered some more cables to try Justmls in single channel mode...
