First off, hello to everyone! This is my first post here, and I hopefully put it in the right place but I'm not 100% on that. If not, I apologize in advance.
Anyway, I went rummaging through my parents garage earlier today and I found our old JVC AX-44 stereo system lying around. It was pretty dusty, and there is some damage to some of the speakers in either cabinet. The amp seems fine though as far as I can tell. I've decided that I want to replace all of the speakers in the cabinet with better newer ones, and get that old 80s bad boy back up and running in full. But I honestly have no idea where to start. I'm a complete novice when it comes to Stereo work, and I know very little about it. Can someone explain the basics of what I need to know to replace the speakers? Technical specs I need to keep in mind like wattage and impedance, that sort of thing? Advice or recommendations on which speakers I should get? I was planning to just pick everything up from Parts Express, but I'm open to any recommendations. I'd like to end up with a nice setup that will practically blast the door to my tiny room off it's hinges with a lot of bass, without distorting the overall sound quality too much. I know it's a total cliche to want a setup with a lot of bass, but I'm not expecting to get audio file quality with these cabinets (Pressed wood, really?) and instead just want the best sound I can get out of it. Anyway, I've attached pictures of the system including closeups of the specs and such. Any help, information, or thoughts anyone can provide would be great! Thanks in advance! |

No one has any advice or info for me?
I'm honestly such a novice with this stuff that just about any advice would be helpful. All of the information I can find is either too advanced, or too basic, haha. I don't even know how the wattage works for the speakers in conjunction with the Amp. If the Amp says 200w, but each cabinet says 120w, what does that mean? That the total power for the combined 3 speakers in each cabinet is 120w? I honestly have no idea because I'm completely uninformed. But I want to learn! TEACH ME!!! I just need some basic ideas of what to take into consideration when replacing the speakers. If anyone would be willing to explain, I'd really appreciate it. |
