Question 10 woofer for transmission line?

Looking for a 10 woofer to go in a transmission line cabinet. Cabinet will be built to suit the woofer. Woofer box height approx 30" volume around 2.5 ft (71L). The line can be folded once or more. It will have an OB fullrange above it.

The woofer needs to be available in Europe/UK. Maybe the Peerless SLS-10?
I don't know 10s very well, so am looking for some advice. Thanks!

Hi pano,

Yes the SLS 10 is a very good choice ! I like a lot this woofer For me it is the best choice in this price range.
It is difficult to find a 10" made for other thing than bass reflex...

Regards.

Default How about SB Acoustics?

If they're available in Europe, the SB Acoustics 10" woofer, SB29NRX75-6, works really well in a TL. Using Martin King's software, I just modeled a 10:1 tapered TL for this SB woofer. The line I modeled is 80" long and contains a volume of 72 liters. It would have to be folded probably twice to fit within a 30" height. I've attached the system response that I modeled.

If it's possible you'd build what I modeled, here's more information. The closed end of the line is 12"W x 10"D, and the open end is 12"W x 1" deep. The terminus is the same area as the end of the line but you might want to make it 6"W x 2"H, or 8"W x 1.5"H, for instance, so its aspect ratio isn't too large. I modeled with the woofer's center 16" from the closed end of the line, and I used a stuffing density of 0.75 lb/ft3, requiring a total of ~2 pounds of polyester-type stuffing uniformly distributed by density in the first 54 inches of the line's length. You can decrease the stuffing density or decrease the stuffing length if you want F3 to be a bit lower. Oh, that response graph represents the output SPL for a 2.83-volt input (re: 1 meter).

Thanks again, Paul.
Looks like the Peerless may be the driver in this case. It's available in the UK for not much money and it's a good driver. The SBs are in Denmark or Germany. (still possible).

The Volts are £280 each...

I was thinking a bit ago about the model and I discovered I made a mistake. It actually contains a volume more like 86 liters instead of 72 liters. Sometimes my fingers go way faster than my brain when using a calculator. The volume could be reduced appropriately but that would naturally raise F3 some.
