Default Always check your caps...

For all those people with old speakers that maybe don't sound as good as they used to, check your caps...
Got a pair of Dynaco A25s the other day, things sounds NQR from the get go, one side had LOW treble output. Fussed about until finally realizing I should check the x-over, visually looked OK, checked the caps on the meter.....should be 5uf; one was 6.28uf the other 1.53uf!

I replaced the caps and the sound is back to normal. I can get back to enjoying the A25s.
Cheers,
Richard.

Also a good idea to check the caps ESR. Sometimes the capacitive value is normal but the ESR is way too high which will also cause low treble output.

I hope you replaced those aged NPE's with film types.
Here's a thread about a comprehensive way to measure capacitors.

Thanks for the suggestion about ESR, I wouldn't have thought to do that.
Replaced the caps with some Bennics I had lying around.
