These have been in my life for 15 years. They have been around the world as i've move due to my jobs. Last abuse the saw was next to the tv and my daughter poking them. The last year they have been in the workshop gathering dust or being used as table. Have suffered cosmeticly, chips, dents, scrapes, drilling, grinding.
So i found a neat and quick way to remove the venner. Mapp gas tourch and paint scraper. Not much passes 1200c. I then used a belt sander to clean them up, filled the cosmetics in, lick of paint that was laying about to show more imperfections then sanded back down to pure MDF. I got creative and all by hand using just a Black & Decker mouse i rounded the edges, looks lots nicer than this stager thing Mission do/did. So now there ready and i need to replace the tweeter and mid/bass but have no idea what to use. I though i would use the crossover thats from Mission just upgrade the caps. Also to use some new speaker wire, decent stuff from crossover to speakers. So does anyone have any advice of what to use, where to get or whats going to fit? I've no idea what i should be looking at. I might even be tempted to upgrade the crossovers. Soldering that sorta of thing is not me so if i can get a prebuilt item even better and something nice looking perhaps i can mod part of the speaker to view it. Here are some photos of one speakers thats done ready for finishing which for min is all hush hush Im in the UK Last edited by Pjalchemist; 16th April 2011 at 07:14 PM. |

Once you replace (substitute) any driver, the crossover should be redesigned to suit the new driver.
By using an existing cabinet, then finding drivers, your doing things the hardest way possible. Unless you use the original drivers and (maybe) the original crossover, I'm afraid you might not get much help. Not because no one wants to help, it's just that it's going to be a massive up hill fight to get them to sound ok. |

whats wrong with the speakers as they are? Dont they use a version of the Audax aerogel mid/bass? A better substitute might be hard to find.
If the sound isnt to your liking Id make some measurements to see if its a problem with the crossover implementation. Might just be that you need a better optimized crossover. |

Id probably go with that mid-driver if nothing else it fits the cutout exactly. Good tweeters arent that hard to find. There are many tweeters that have those (or close) outer diameter.

I don't like the look of the mid/bass at all, that cracked glass look looks old and cheap |

The original Audax driver is very similar in spec to the one you linked and has an identical basket so should physically fit:
