If you're not a subscriber, pick up the May issue of audioXpress. There's an article in there describing in detail how you to measure ESR, phase and capacitance over 31 data points (10-20 kHz) and even compare one cap with another, good with bad, etc.
When I recap a speaker for a customer, I now include a cap test report showing how the old compares to the new with respect to ESR, capacitance and phase. The data is much easier to understand than anecdotal, subjective opinions. |

It's a product for speaker enthusiasts, mainly intended to measure woofer Thiel/Small parameters. However, it's utility as a capacitor measuring device has only been exploited recently as noted in the magazine article.
If you do a fair amount of speaker DIY'ing, you may want to consider getting one. Here's a link to the WT2 site. woofertester.com DISCLAIMER: I have no affiliation with Smith & Larson Audio! Last edited by speakerdoctor; 13th April 2011 at 01:41 PM. Reason: disclaimer added |
