Hello there,
I have a pair of Coles supertweeters that I am in the process of cleaning up and restoring. So far I have carefully dismantled the units and now need to clean them, but I was wondering if anyone knew what to use on the diaphragm. I am unsure what plastic it's made from, and don't want to run the risk of damaging it or dissolving it. If anyone has any tips or info that would be appreciated. |

When I first saw the thread, I thought that Coles supermarkets were selling tweeters!???
As for cleaning, I've never cleaned a tweeter before, does it have any sticky coating on it? |

No it has no coating, its an old British tweeter, used in some designs by KEF, Linn, B&W etc. Quite sought after now. The diaphragm is very fragile, and is actually the diaphragm originally designed for use in a microphone. I just wasn't 100% sure what cleaning agents to use, for risk of damaging or dissolving the diaphragm.
I have since found out that methylated spirits is safe to use, so thats the question answered. I might post some pics of the pair once I have re-finished and painted them and replaced all the screws etc. |
