Default Advice on how to complement my existing speakers...

Hi,
I've recently put together two F5 tower speakers from The Loud Speaker Kit.

Their site says they use:
  • 1 Vifa tweeter
  • 2 Peerless woofers
However, my tweeter has a Peerless sticker, but the model (D19TD-05-08) seems to correlate with a Vifa tweeter on parts-express.

And my woofers have a 'pae' sticker on them with model BC14SG18-08... This model is only referenced here, as a Vifa driver.

LSK state that their C5 and M5 kits complement the F5 nicely, they use the same drivers, are all ported designs and presumably have other similarities that are beyond my understanding.

I want to complement my F5s with rears and a centre speaker for a moderate HT set up. My problem is that LSK are out of stock and have not gotten back to me after around a month of waiting for an email response or a call back.

Also, now I have built a kit, the woodworking excites me, I'd like to do it from scratch anyway. Can anyone recommend a design that uses similar enough drivers to the F5s for a centre, and or bookshelf/satellites that they won't clash? Or am I now in a position where I need to wait for LSK to restock or build the entire 5 speakers with another design suite?

Thanks, JJ.

VIFA & Peerless were merged (actually more convuluted than that) and there is likely a lot of cross-labeling, particularily during the merge phase.

Ah, okay thanks for that Dave

What do you think I should do about making the matching 3 speakers?

You want the entire system to sound the same. If you can get 3 small TMs using the same drivers with similar XO you should be good to go. Don't be tempted by a side-by-side MTM for the centre.

Is it in my best interest to get them all to sound the same? I can remember reading somewhere that, particularly with mismatched tweeters, an undesirable sound is produced.

So for the centre using a TM configuration, I would have to have it standing vertically to avoid combing right?

Would a centre speaker like this allow me to use a horizontal MTMish configuration?

Also, I don't have testing equipment and thus doubt I'd be able to design the cabinet and develop a similar XO myself, so I am looking for schematic suggestions on speakers that would match up. Thanks for replying nonetheless

Yes, but now you have a 3-way that will have different voicing, and given that the mid in that is the same size as the midbass in the one you already have, no shorter. You gain bass you don't need, and lose everywhere else.

Get 3 of these M5 Kit Bookshelf Speaker (Gen II) - The Loud Speaker Kit for best matching, maybe these if they nee to be shorter M4 Kit Speaker - The Loud Speaker Kit

I'd reconfigure the baffles a bit on both of those.

The M4s use different drivers and likely a different XO, wouldn't they also have a different voice?

And the M5s are out of stock, as the LSK site does not provide a schematic (counter-productive for business), are there any DIY guides that use the same drivers?

Alternatively, would it work/ is it legal for me to clone the LSK design of the M5? I can certainly produce the same XO as the F5 as I have them on hand, all that would need to be done is to digitally measure the cabinet size of the M5 from the photos, which I'm guessing is a totally noob idea that is too fantastic to work...
