So I'm thinking about spending my hard earned cash on a pair of these coax's
The problem is that I live in Denmark, and I can't just audition a pair. In the past I had a pair of diy Tannoy Buckingham's which I loved, but in a moment of stupidity I sold them. Lately I've build a pair of 7pi corner horns which also are great, but it's time for renewal. My question is: are these super sounding monstorous speakers, or just a bit over hyped? The GPA's will cost me almost $3000 before they reach my doorstep so it's a low down dirty same if the don't live it up! I listen mostly to indie/rock and metal! Help me please! - Thomas Last edited by Hrmmf; 28th March 2011 at 06:10 PM. |

Never having auditioned the Tannoys, don't know how the 604 compares, but most of the earlier models have a strong following and after all, probably more music was mastered on them than any other studio monitor and the series 3 is somewhat improved over them.
What makes or breaks them is the XO, so the more elaborate one with the mids, HF adjustment and proper time delay is desirable. Unfortunately, you will have to build them as it's not available from GPA AFAIK. Frankly, at $3 k and the type of music you listen to, a larger VOT components two way would be my choice if your room isn't too small and/or you have to sit close. Anyway, the Altec forum is a more appropriate place for discussing this driver as there's some Europeans with 604s that you can maybe audition: Altec User's Board - Hostboard GM

Thanks GM!
I'll take a closer look at the appropriate forum. Thomas |

I think they won't cost you that much. They are $950 each, US $.So for the pair it will cost $1900 US Dollars + Shipping.

Bummer ! Do you have any family here in the states. That can buy them and then send as used equipment as a gift from one family member to another !
