Default How to clean Morel sticky Tweeters

Hello

I have a pair UK made Morel tweeter , I would like to use them.
Actually they sound very nice. I chose them over the 9300 Scan Speak , to me the Morel sound better..
My problem with them they are a bit dirty.
Did someone ever try to clean sticky dome tweeters?
Any advise, I do not want to destroy them.
Please let me know if you have any idea.
Thank you !!

Greetings gabor

a q-tip and saliva, rinse your mouth with water and wait 5mins, this is how the most delicate archeology artifacts and artworks are cleaned.

there is a proper method of wetting then rolling with slide and pressure, roll 3/4th of the tip head then switch.

Hi,

i would try some (possibly double sided) adhesive tape,
stick it several times to my own fingers or a clean
surface to make it less sticky and grab the dust very
gently from the surface - with the tape being made
as "unsticky" as possible before.

Try to keep the voice coil in its orientation in the
magnetic gap, if you cannot avoid a little excursion of
the membrane. When operating at the periphery of
the dome, near the suspension, rather pull the tape
to the side (in the plane of the faceplate).

In the center you may pull more upward, but try everywhere
kind of soft 'rolling' motion instead of pure 'pulling'.
Try to avoid moving -or sticking to- the voice coil cords.

edit:
Ah ... just read the Q tip trick.

Hello

Nothing you guys advised worked out.
On the end I used Mineral Spirits , I washed done all that sticky stuff with a small painting brush. It took me a half an hour.
Now I put a thin coat of paint on it because there were a lot of small holes on the silk.
I did on one driver, I wait until will dry so I can do a listening test com pare to the orig.
I hate that sticky stuff!
I hope it work, now the dome got a bit lighter.
Thank for all your advise.
Greetings

Right up there with Nose Grease
Quote:
Nose grease can be used to minimize scratches in optical surfaces, for example when cleaning photographic negatives.[1] Observatory lore holds that nose grease was used to reduce stray light and reflections in transmissive telescopes before the development of vacuum antireflective coatings.[2] The antireflective properties are due in part to the fact that the nose oil fills small cracks and scratches and forms a smooth, polished surface, and in part to the low index of refraction of the oil, which can reduce surface reflection from transmissive optics that have a high index of refraction
I believe it was/is also use by Swiss watchmakers

Hello

I made some picture from the driver, the paint didn't dry yet but I like the result.
No more dust etc problem.
I will com pare with the orig sound wise, I hope at least as good as the orig.
I wait a day or so , so the paint get 100% dry.
The dome still nice and soft..

Greetings gabor
