Transducer thingummy

I'm looking for some technology about a "Bass Shaker" type of transducer (if I am using the correct term) that reproduces the full spectrum. Supposedly, one merely places the apparatus on any surface and it moterizes the surface to play full range. Anybody heard of it?

The transducers for the NXT flat panel speakers might fit that description. I have seen price lists for them, but I cannot find them by a quick search. Hook the transducer up to ceiling tile or a variety of flat surfaces, and you have a functioning speaker down to 200 Hz or so.

It might be cheaper to buy a cheap set of computer speakers to get the transducers than to actually buy the separate unit. Those flat panel NXT typecomputer speakers, (Benwin, among others), go pretty cheap.

I wonder, are you referring the the Soundbug? From what I've heard they don't work so good but here's the link.

Just from my experiance NXT sounds like crap.. I bought a pair
of Benwin's for my PC solely due to thier price and they can not
compare to my Altec ACS31's.. They sound hollow, dull, tinny
and completly muffled..

I am sure there are better ways to impliment the technology. For
example Benwin used a sheet of plastic with a foam surround and
what looks like a set of headphone transducers to move the
pannel. I am sure a better NXT setup could be made using a wood
frame, a speaker with the cone and cap removed (just link the
VC Former to the pannel) and a sheet of some sort of real thin
metal bonded to a flat santoprene or regular rubber surround.


I guess in the end you get what you pay for.. This technology
could work great given the proper design and materials would be
used.
