Default Couple of designs to choose from...

Gents,

I am looking to for a new pair of speakers for a pure 2ch system (Jazz, Blues, Rock)

I have narrowed down a few designs, but I have to be honest without being able to hear them I am unsure if they are going to sound as good as (or better) than my pervious speakers or the commercial speaker I am looking at.

Speaker History
B&W 803D
B&W 802D
B&W 800D
Wilson Audio Watt/Puppy 8
Wilson Audio Sophia 2
Sonus Faber Cremona M

My current shortlist for a new commercial speaker are:

Wilson Audio Sophia 3 OR B&W 803Di

I am pretty handy with the tools and confident I can build the speaker boxes and do the crossovers.

The DIY designs I am looking at are:

Troels Jensen 1071
Scanspeak Vertigo
Tony Gee's Soup Ceramique MK-II

Are the above designs compareable? Worth exploring?

Not concerned about the $ side of the designs, more about sound quality.

Hi,

Hello fellow Aussie, I like to suggest you start off with a not such an ambitious project. A good project some thing similar to this,ELLAM-25,

I think the drivers are excellent not cheap and will sound excellent in an average room. Without listening to them I can be fairly sure they will sound open and dynamic. The bass will not be very deep but sufficient.

or another project from fellow Australian which is much cheaper and will sound equally good.
The "Elsinore Project" Thread

Both have much simpler x-over and less component count and you can get high quality components.

If you can make the boxes and can follow a schematic and solder it together and money is not a prime consideration, something like the Tony Gee Galactica would be a better choice.

One more vote for Tony Gee Galactica or if you don't mind a large box, how about Troels DTQWT? Efficiency is pretty addictive as well besides other attributes.

Better still I reckon if you ditch the expensive and complex passive xovers and go active - probably not a lot of difference in $ if you aren't amp phobic. Or use a DEQX and take it to a new level.

I was to consider Galactica too ,or even better Half Galactica ,when I found the same design here Sounds by Design || Contact ( I hope the images don't change ...)
Which is a more affordable system .

They do change ! Btw it's Forum member's site, so you may contact him for more information...
If non diffracional boxes for mid -hi are the things you're searching , there's a lot to learn by just
looking how he makes molds for resin and looks for perfect finish
