Default Best 8" to 12" driver for 130hz tractrix horn

I am after a driver to use from hopefully 150 Hz to around 1000 Hz in a yet to be built plywood 100cm tractrix horn. I have learnt the basics on Hornresp and would like some drivers to model.

Let me know your thoughts and drivers I can simulate.

Eleven Horns - lower midrange horn.... 140 Hertz Le Cleac'h...

The 130 to 150Hz horns around the 800/900mm diameter seems about right.
Could the 40" horn be 100Hz and not 200Hz?

Sorry Andrew,

OT again: Deleted my previous post as it was to much OT.

Note this is Le´Cleach. 40" is exactly what you get when using Jean-Michels spreadsheet for Fcut=200Hz. Ie the Elevens are compromises.

Also the Stereolabs seems to be the rip-off of the century.

The following drivers are ones that I've either built with, or know first hand that work very well in horns.

Eminence Delta Pro-8A or 8B, the 8A is 8 ohms, the 8B is 16 ohms
Ciare 6.38NdW
Ciare 8.50NdW
Faital M5N12-80, it is 12 ohms
Faital W6N8-120
Beyma 6MI100
18 Sound 6ND410
18 Sound 8M400
18 Sound 10M600
B&C Speakers 8PE21
B&C Speakers 10MD26

Your overall goal will determine which driver will meet your needs the best.

Hey 3GGG,

As I understand it you will use Hornresp for your design. Remember that "Constant Directivity" is useless(almost) except for basshorns, you should use "Directivity" at preferred angle instead.

I guess this is more of a midbass design for 2*Pi. A full 130Hz Tractrix has a min. length of 66cm2 and a max At of 130cm3.

Thanks guys

JLH, thats a nice list whicch should give me a few hours plaaying around with.
My overall goal is to build the most detailed neutral sounding set of horns.

For under 150Hz i am yet to determine what to do. I will build the remainder of the system first and see how it goes in room.

The hard part is knowing where to start as each component links onto the next, therefore I have decided to start with the midbass horn.

For under 150Hz, why not try the GOTO bass horn, which Ming Su and I developed. It's good for 300Hz, and you can run the Altec 416 driver. I could cobble together a flat-pack kit...

I've also developed a non CNC'd/sliced model...using traditional flat panels. Cheaper option in either MDF or 25mm ply.

Andrew.

Is the driver going to be compression loaded? Or is it simply a speaker firing into a horn. IOW, is the throat area "smaller" than the driver's area?
