I get the strange feeling that those speakers would have a rather inconsistent, blatty midbass/midrange.

I don't see any reason why those would not perform well!

Small/mid sized box, tuned as a decent bookshelf or a satellite, decent drivers, normal even little better than that crossover. - Nothing wrong.

They even have a complicated baffle shape which is a probable advantage having in mind baffle step issues.

I like those!
