Default my new project 6,5 - 2-way

hello together... from germany

an sorry... my english isnt good... often i need translate with www.

5 years ago i constructet for my best friend following floorstander:

morel110, seas ppi H571, vented, -3db i think 58hz, using mundorf supreme, intertechnik mica, cu.foil.coils... smallest possible front... geometric time-delay

my friend now got better amp, turntable, pre... accuphase450, transrotor, heed... and he asked me, if it would be possible, TODAY, to create a better speaker system.... he never heard a better... on his shopping-tours... up today.

of cause... because the best speakers are born in diy...;-)

I remember, the first construktion 5Y ago, the sound of the driver got deeper and faster, when i damped the basket... an pushed it while screwing on - with the magnet on a damped brace...

now my first question:

what is the reason for this ? changing of thiele small ? which exactly ?

would be very kind... somebody could explain... thanks many... before

the plan now is...

to use the new morel 1108... seems to be more flat than the older...

and the seas er180rnx... whicht would be damped and pushed like the ppi

wax-coils..(promis better bass). silver-gold- caps...(better treble... more air)

problems could be, the 4500 hz peak by first order...
becaus the crossover will become only 1 coil, 1 cap, and 2 resistors...

smiling... i know... the driver i cheaper than the coil ...
but
what is lost in front... in never to get back...;-)

thanks for reading, up to here...

it would be nice... to give me an answer... to TS-parameters

I'm not following your T/S question. I do think that current drivers tend to be better overall than those of ten years ago. But having said that, my current favorite speaker uses a tweeter that I bought in the early eighties. There's some very good drivers available at what I consider reasonable prices. The Peerless HDS line for example.

Default the question was: why changes the sound...by damping

thanks

but... never change a running system (too much) smile

because... the 5 year old speakers "beaming" me in nearly perfekt authentic rooms...

only the bass ... could be playing a bit deeper ... more volume, by beeing flat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

when i construct a speaker... the most final finish ??? is... to find the best crossover-point HZ...AND!!! to fit the tweeter, that this isnt hearable....

i love cone-paper sound ... love the (old) morel superemes... wonderfull....
and the new should be better.... more flat....

yes... i have build speakers.... with dynaudio esotar.... with seas millenium too....
but the morel... the old...110... think one of worlds best... flattest...

think ... moving mass should be minimum.... because much mass (peerless) cant be fast (enougth) in my phantasy ? :-)

the question again....
why changes sound...
