Hi all
Today I fried a tweeter in one of my Sony SS-X7 speakers. It was stupid acting with provisional connectors and my prototype amp that somehow caused extreme noise that made my tweeter die. I don't know whether Sony will support me and sell me a new tweeter for replacement. On the backside the tweeter reads: SONY 1-504-664-11 H 720-6ohm Made in Norway 24/00 Do you have an idea where to get such a tweeter? Does anyone recognize this tweeter as a brand X model Y one? Cone diameter is 1 inch (~25mm). Magnet has 72mm diameter. Inner screw mounting diameter is 50mm. Outer mounting screw diameter is approx 94mm. I liked the sound of the speakers very much. ![]() Does someone know an alternative to use for the case I can't manage to find the original part? Attached some pictures. Every hint and help is highly appreciated. I hope this won't happen to anyone else. ![]() Thanks, Lee |

Looks like a SEAS 27TFF or 27TDF. Almost.

The Sonys look very much like the ones from Seas.
Btw: I was wrong. Mounting hole diameter is 92mm. They have a lot of tweeters that could fit mounting wise except for the terminals. To me they all look alike. Do you think I even could upgrade with new tweeters? Making the catastrophic mistake into an improvement? Thanks for the hint! You helped me a lot. Lee |

Norway means SEAS, fabric dome, no rear chamber.
These look to have a different faceplate, look closely at the profile around the hole. Take the dead one apart and tell us whether there is sticky fluid in the magnet gap. |

I checked for distributors in Germany and found Intertechnik.
The model numbers there are different what makes it very confusing. But I saw one that has the terminals the way Sony has them. Lautsprecher Shop Intertechnik - KT25F | Tweeter :: Seas-Prestige :: Loudspeakers :: Could this be the one that Sony used? edit: Yes! Yes, yes, yes! I measured all distances and it seems this is exactly the tweeter Sony used! Thank you so much. Without your help I probably wouldn't have found out. Great resource, thanks!
I took out all four low/midrange chassis to measure their Rdc (which was okay) and took a photo of one. Does someone recognize this one as well? Surprisingly they have 8 Ohm impedance and cheapest plastic housing. The magnet doesn't look too powerful to me. Can something like this sell as a single part on the HiFi market? I like the sound of the speakers very much, except the deep bass. I find the bass to be surprisingly deep but boomy and blurred. That's why I used an active crossover and a separate DIY 15" sub all the years. I think it was my DIY active crossover that killed the tweeter. The amp that drove them before had a delayed speaker insertion that cut the noise the crossover generated during startup. Before the catastrophe I tested the new amp on the sub channel and without crossover at the full ranges and there it was okay. Only for the sub channel there was a massive turn off thump from the crossover. I will put a speaker relais into the prototype amp ASAP. The speakers made me curious. I will further take them apart because I like to see their crossovers. Will post some pictures later. Again thanks to all that contributed here. Lee |

And this is what the schematic looks like. I had to guess a lot of component values and they don't make any sense to me.
