Skorpion, I've been following your thread on Audio Circle, as I'm trying out something similar. You mention there some discussion on Scandanavian forums on the AE drivers. In terms of sound quality, if they are used up to say, 300-400Hz, is there any concensus if the Dipole 15s are worth the extra cost over the IB 15s? |

Toaster,
The discussion was before any purchase. But I have done some tests myself regarding IB15. I would stay with 250 Hz crossover for the IB15. I tested with voice and I think I hear degrading going to 300 Hz and definitely going as high as 400 Hz for crossing there is no question of worse behaviour. Voice speech is quite revealing. So like AE says themselves 250 Hz for IB15 is probably a good max crossover frequency. But about Dipole15 they would go very much higher mentioning as highs as 2 kHz. /Erling |

Thanks Skorpion- although that's not the answer I was hoping for! Dipole 15s are a lot more expensive! I'm really building a NaO Note, but I've got sidetracked with the BG Neo 3 and Neo 10s, and the 10s really need to cross at about 300Hz or above.

Toaster,
Judging from BG's specs for the Neo10 and the measured free air frequency response I don't think 250 Hz crossover would be problematic at all. Look also at 'studiotech's' AC thread where he reported test with 100 Hz crossing. Why not ask him ? /Erling |

Yes, I've been following that build too. Of course he is using two of them. How about the Dipole 15 vs the IB15 below 250Hz?

Toaster,
I think you are a bit pessimistic. Regarding Dipole15 contra IB15 I don't know from practice. It should a bit more sensitive and a bit more extended downwards for the same bafflesize of course. Why not ask Greg, he can also test with one unit I suppose. /Erling |

Heh! You know you're right, I do tend towards pessimism. At the moment I have Hawthorne Augies, which work well in my room, but I only have one Neo 10, and I haven't listened to it yet. The current kludge is the Augies with the Scan 10Fs and Neo 3s intended for the NaOs The idea will be to experiment with MiniDSP boards. I suppose, realistically, that Dipole 15s are too expensive anyway. I'm encouraged that you seem to be getting decent levels from the IB15s.

Fair enough- although I would mildly point out that you are also engaging in discussion, as are others on this thread.
