Hey everyone. I'm new, obviously. I've lurked around on this forum quite a bit. I recently started a new project and wanted to log the project. For others to learn from my mistakes, and to gain help personally with it. I started the build here:
Nameless 2-way speaker build - AVS Forum I haven't gotten much feedback over there. I was already a member, so that's why I started there. They're more into subs I think ![]() Anyways, I was hoping some of the knowledge available on this forum could help me out a little. I want to do a good job, and offer something back with the knowledge given to me. My first question no one has answered, is if my box model shows a rise below 100hz, will this offset the natural roll off of the woofer? Thanks everyone. |

Hey kbgl,
I said "I haven't gotten much feedback" I didn't fully understand that you had answered that question, sorry. But I still think we're missing each other. I'm not asking about deep bass. The peerless is down a few db by 80hz where I would cross over to my sub (when being used). I'm wondering if the rise from the higher port tune, will correct this and stay "flatter" down to say 70hz. Rather than which has the deepest bass response. Also, the 18L configuration is getting big. |

Well yes, but it really doesn't matter. An F3 of 80 hz is more or less ideal. When you add a highpass filter, the response at 80 hz will be a little lower than the theoretical -6 dB, but in the overall scheme of things, that's a very minor issue. Keep in mind that your room will have a large effect on bass in that range. What you may want to look at closely is how loud you can play when using the 80 hz x-over to the sub. The higher tuning will likely allow a few more dB of output due to reduced excursion. Excursion is the key to keeping the distortion in check. I personally prefer to use a sealed box for the mains. For some reason, a high tune doesn't sound "right" to my ear. This is just my opinion. I think I'm sensitive to port resonances or something. My sub is ported, but much lower of course.

Hi !
I like a lot the SDS134. Two similar projects that could help : Peerless 830656 suggestions Cosette: la 2-voies pas chère - Enceintes (tu es peut être francophone ? or use a translator) With actual TS parameters, no bump below 100Hz 10-12L@47-50Hz. Have fun |

Hi tuxedocivic,
jerome69 already posted a link to my project. I suggest to read the thread because it contains a methodology for calculate the crossover, that can be adapted for your chosen tweeter. Another link to a project that uses my same drivers - Peerless 830656 and Vifa BC25TG15-04 (found after I finished mine): StartAirKit 3R As for the bass, the woofer can go low for its size. I think I tuned mine not completely correctly because it is a little boomy, but noticeable only with male speech. For this I would go for a smaller box (10l). The port you chose will definitely be right in order to achieve the correct tuning. Ralf |

Hey, thanks everyone.
A 1-way would work :P except I'd like to build a fresh XO to gain experience. This is a learning project for me. I'm from Victoria also. I see a couple of you here. The idea of a floor stander won't work. I already have DIY floor standers. I'd like to go small this time. Also, my couch is quite high, so I'll need these on tall stands or something. Giralfino, thanks for your build. I'll be looking to gleen some info from it without cheating too much |

giralfino - I just looked at your thread. Nice looking finished product. Hopefully I'll end up with something similar. I don't plan to veneer it though
Keeping it low cost. Very nice though.
