Question Speakers for T-Amp TA2020 under 200$

Hi,

I'm looking for the best (new and already made) speakers for my T-Amp TA2020 under 200$.

I think buying the Eltax Monitor III. Someone told me that their 89db is perhaps insufficient.

Have you a better suggestion?

The rule of thumb is a speaker/amp combination should be able to reproduce 102 db @ one meter for "adequate" sound levels.
That would imply that you "need" 16 Watts.
Depending on room size, music and personal preference, you may need more (or less) power.

HTH

102dB@1m?! I suppose it depends on your distance from the speakers, but even so, that's really quite loud.

If you're looking for something smallish and bookshelf sized, I think I'd stand by a 4" full range driver in a ported cabinet. There's also some other small folded Voigt pipe designs that might be worth a look. Then again, it all depends on music choice, how loud you like to listen, and how much bass you want.

This is a DIY forum so if you are looking for a new and already made, look elsewhere.

You may try Dayton PS180 or PS220, they are relatively high sensitivity fullrange drivers. You're not going to find a high sensitivity small two-way bookshelf speaker, they do not exist. Small bookshelf speakers are low sensitivity in order to get some decent bass response. High sensitivity does not come in small packages.

102dB is a fine goal to account for peak levels. 110dB even better if you want to play loudly without strain.

Check out the Parts Express Karma Indignia. It started life over on Audio Karma and had Lots and Lots of testing and tweaking before PE showcased them.
