I'm recapping my Pioneer CS-88a speakers and would like to know what the group prefers for fastening the new caps. Is the regular glue gun stuff satisfactory? Or should I go with something else? It's looking like a bit of a
challenge b/c the new caps from Parts Express will be slightly larger than the originals. Thanks in advance Mike in Denver |

I use clear silicone sealant to attach components whenever I build crossovers for my DIY speakers, although many other DIYers use regular glue gun stuff.

A zip tie works well too if you have room.

I would stay away from any silicone that releases acetic acid when curing (you can smell it). In an enclosed speaker the acetic acid will definitely corrode your components.
I personally use a product called Amazing Goop (available in Home Depot in the US, among other places). It is a solvent-based silicone, so no acetic acid release. It cures completely overnight and sets up within an hour or so. It has a very strong hold but still allows you to remove/swap components even years later, with a little prying/cutting of the silicone. I have attached a couple pics of the external crossover I built for my Infinity RSIIb speakers using Goop and zip ties. |
