need help with some ideas for my new loudspeakers

Several months ago I finished with my first set of speakers. They were clones of magico mini's. The turned out amazing visually and sonicly. I am now going to attempt a new design. I guess once you start in DIY audio it's hard to stop.

After thinking about what I would like to achieve I reached the following conclusions:
1. I would like to build a 7.1 system
2. I would like to build active speakers.
3. I understand that this will take a long time to get it right.

My question is where can I find more information about active speakers. My searches have been relatively fruitless.

Active speakers are pretty much the same as passive speakers overall. The difference as you know is the x-over, and wiring. If I were doing an active system, I'd only do the 3 fronts as active. There's just too many wires and amps otherwise. Many people use a DCX2496 for a x-over. There are other units that may be better, but they cost more.

Perhaps if you search for active crossovers, you will find what you are looking for.

Do you mean active speakers or active XO's? Active speakers have the amps built in to the cabinets.
