Default C173 based 3-way suggestions

Many people seem to find the Accuton C173-6-90 the best middriver out there. I agree based on experience from Marten design speakers in my hometown Gothenburg.
It is very hard to find any DIY designs with this driver though. The only one I find right now is the humble statement on humble homemade hifi.
IMHO it would be nice to have a 3-way that makes use of the high sensitivity of the C173. Using a pair of Accutons new 8" drivers would be an expensive overkill since you don't need their low inductance motors when you cross them low to a 6,5” mid. Perhaps something like a pair of Scanspeak discovery 22W which has quite high sensitivity?
A "modern" choice of tweeter would be an AMT/magnetostat. I would prefer to avoid the steep filter required for a true ribbontweeter.
Does anyone know of a project like this ?

I believe that the driver commented on in that thread is a midbass, which is different to the c173 mid driver. The combination of the c95-t6 midbass and the er-4 AMT tweeter in a 2-way could be very nice as well I presume..

im currently working on a project using the c173 as it's midrange.

its a big full range 4-way.

still working things out on paper before I start building.

im planning on using the c30-6-024 as my tweeter.

I have no experience of Accuton tweeters, but I guess it will be easy to integrate with the c173 mid. A 4-way speaker would be too complicated for me, since I already regard a 3-way as one variable too many.. Would be interesting to hear about your project though.

Look back to a 3-Way Xover by Tinitus. (It all depends on the driver chosen) Add an inductor to the woofer, and place the mid driver in a small closed box. That's a good starting point.

I want really solid deep bass for organ music and the like, I want to be able to hit 16-17hz with authority and the 8" mid-bass drivers I plan on using just won't give me that. So I figure a really great 15" sub should give me the extension I want but the smaller mid-bass will give me the speed and quick transients that I look for as well.

I settled on the c30 as it seems like a perfect fit for the c173, both are 93dB efficient, their slopes even match up well. they just look like a perfect fit, and of course the accuton ceramics are some of the best tweeters I have heard. Haven't heard any of their diamond tweeters yet, but they don't seem efficient enough for me to want to use them, and I dont feel like buying 20 just so I can get a custom tweeter (accuton will do custom driver builds in quantities as low as 20). Plus the c30 seems like a robust little driver, power handling is quoted as 120watts.

Jed Kunz of Clearwave Audio offers a 3-way kit with the ScanSpeak Aircirc tweeter 3004/6600 and ScanSpeak 10" Alu woofer or SEAS Excel W26 10" Nextel woofer:

http://clearwaveloudspeaker.com/Duet10/Duet10.html

You can buy it in kit form or fully assembled.

You can also buy the R version with the RAAL OEM tweeter, but as a completed speaker only.

I have no affiliation with him. I've been on the lookout for a true 3 way box loudspeaker with a slim footprint.

Thank's for all advive. The clearwave speaker kit seem very interesting. I would still prefer woofers with higher sensitivity though, and an AMT tweeter for maximum dynamics. Using a single scanspeak 10" as woofer will sacrifice some sensitivity but will probably make the speaker more amplifierfriendly than with parallell 8" woofers. For a single 10" the Audiotechnology 10C77 would fit my spec better than the Scanspeak version. Troels Gravesen has a comparison which demonstrates the significantly higher sensitivity of this driver in the bassrange: 10C77
Twin Scanspeak discovery 8" (22W) drivers will probably give about the same or higher sensitivity, will move more air, will cost less, but will be more current hungry..
Perhaps having a custom built speaker by Selah audio or Clearwave speakers would be the best option since a 3-way will need a lot of trial and error to get it right and make use of the potential of these drivers..
