Acustic damping in wilmslow atc k100

I recently built the K100's and am concerned there is not any foam damping supplied to line the boxes. Spoke to Wilmslow and they say it is correct, but for ma a 100L box with only bitumen pads has nothing to stop standing waves. Also factory ATC scm 100's have eggbox foam damping and the older ones I believe have normal flat foam. Anyone have thoughts on what is correct? Anyone opened original scm100's?

I wouldn't use foam, but fibreglass. Pack it in and keep the path from woofer to port clear, but everywhere else can be filled. You may need to use some cotton or hessian fabric to hold it where you want it.

Alternatives are carded wool and cotton waste, but there is a ton of 'glass on the market at the moment in Oz very cheap.

I would definitely stay away from fiberglass in ATC's, or any other speaker for that matter. Tiny broken segments are not just annoyance when they lodge into your skin, but can be positively deadly when they end up in your lungs. Yes, the risk is small (unless you deal with fiberglass bats 9 to 5 every day), but why risk it if you've got the choice ? There's plenty of wool in Oz :-)

BTW, my friend's ATC100 kits (direct from ATC, not Wilmslow) have plenty of synthetic wool in them. Real wool is even better.

Are you sure about your friends speakers as ATC do not make kits. The only kit that is approved by ATC is Wilmslow audio's K100 and k50, which is why I do not understand why they have emitted the foam (I have seen pics of foam in scm100's being refurbed, but they were old ones, and they had flat foam but OP said he had seen eggbox foam in the new ones so he was repacing his flat for eggbox

This was many years back, my friend visited UK with a coupe of bottles of Bendigo Shiraz and met Billy Woodman himself (who is originally from Bendigo area) for dinner. He ended up with "super" version of the mid dome as well as "SL" 12" bass units.
I wish he bought two sets :-)

The "risk" is miniscule, and even with the PA boxes I've had, pounded at much greater levels than almost anyone would use at home I've never seen any glass fragments come out of a port.

Wool is better but a darn sight more expensive.
