Default New Project

Hello all

I am a new member here!
Micke is my name, 35 years old and has always loved DIY
Live in Sweden with my wife and our son.

This is my thoughts about a new project I am about to build;

material 16 mm rod glued birch.

Tang Band W4-655E (Two in each box)
Tang Band 28-847SE
Rounded baffle, finish unclear
Stand mounters D'Appolito
Braced
Gateway to the reflex port will be in aluminum or brass

Terminals are manufactured, inspiration is taken from the AAD 2001

Reflex are manufactured, inspiration is taken from Xavian speakers

Obviously, they are not exactly the same but the inspiration is drawn from them

There might be even a few of these;

Thoughts, ideas?

Yes, my thoughts are that this is a nice project. Do you have questions or just looking for encouragement? If you are using solid wood make sure it is dried naturally and not kiln dried. Other than that, have ago at 'er. Have you got the XO sorted out?

Yes! But I could use some help with one part of it

This part I know;

This last thing I was told to add, but where to put it? Before all parts or after just by the drivers?

That's a notch filter and it looks like it wants to go in right after the 15 uF cap on the woofers.

Yeah I know its a notch filter, I am just not sure where to put it.
So its just for the woofers? Its says its good for use of tubeamps!?

Then I can use biwire, great, then I'll make cool jumpers/bridges

Working it backwards might help to understand.

What frequencies are being notched by the filter?
What driver is covering those frequencies?

That's the driver it goes on.

Don't put much emphasis on bi-wiring. It's more fun for the operator than of value to the system. I have tried it a number of times and there's been no audible difference so I simply don't bother. Bi-amping on the other hand...

Well, cause of the small size (D'appolito with 2 pcs of 4") maybe single would fit better. The terminals will look so cool !
And of course the ventport

Tell me, the material of the terminals. How good does alu or brass leads the "sound"??

Forgot to mention: the series filter you show is more often used as an impedance flattener (Zobel) for the woofer(s) so maybe that's it's purpose here rather than notching which is most often done with a parallel type.

I'm not sure I could tell the difference.
