Default A question for Kuei Yang Wang

Hi !
I am a new member and I would like to ask you about some
drivers you have mentioned in Chip Amps thread
"GC vs Sony TA 1055 - Apologies" ... Post#7.
You have mentioned 8" Monacor Fullrange drivers in an
open baffle.
I have Monacor fullrange drivers SP-200X and I would be
very glad , if you could tell me about this open baffle design.
Have you used tweeter in your design?Maybe some other filters
on fullrange driver?
I would appreciate any kind of information.

Calling it "design" is a bit excessive.

It is an open baffle with dimensions based on the MicroBlue LuiLui Speaker, which uses Glass as Baffle material

Click the image to open in full size.

The Dimensions are 65cm wide & 105cm high, following the classic (occult) golden ratio, the driver placement into each direction is attained by dividing each length by 2.618, to again have the 1:1.618 golden ratio.

The Speaker was build by a friend who later switched over to the Supravox (215 RTF Bicone IIRC).

My friend used a Fostex FT-17H Tweeter (with both main drivers) and no filter on the Driver, however the Monacor Driver was lackquered with Dammar, the Basket damepd with rope caulk and the driver was clamped in place with a fulcrum that presses against the magnet so that the whole driver is stopped from vibrating. I believe the Supravox's cast chassis made such work unneccesary.

I will in the very near build a pretty close copy of the LuiLui, but I will be using a special plastic as baffle, it is easier to work with. I will also use the Supravox and most likely a Visaton TL-16 as Tweeter.

Default another question for Kuei Yang Wang

The visaton tweeters don't seem to have very high visability here in the US and I have not have the opportunity to hear them, and don't know anyone who has.

I have been interested enough to look up the graphs for their top two tweeters, but graphs usually don't tell the whole story, and of course once you've bought it you own it whether it sounds like you thought or not.

Would please comment on your thoughts of Visaton horn tweeters vs Fostex and others??

I'm thinking about adding to Azurahorns -

Thanks

Ken L

For the money the Fostex FT-17H is great and it is around 1/3 of the Visaton. I think the Visaton even as "supertweeter" is worth the extra outlay. But personal tastes and perceptions vary.
