Default Celestion 66's and crossover help for a newb!

Hey guys,

New to this forum, and I must say what a great resourceful place!

I'm hoping someone can help me out with a project I'm embarking on, namely getting a pair of Celestion 66 speakers that I inherited from my grandfather up and running.

So far, my testing has lead me to believe that I have a problem with one of the crossovers in one speaker, particularly the part that is feeding the bass cone. I switched the cones from one cabinet to the other as a test to see if it was the speaker that was blown, but both woofers seem to work OK in the left speaker, whereas wired into the right, I get a faint crackle at best. The tweeters and mids seem OK.

Now, here's where I come unstuck...

I have exposed the crossover in the right speaker (which was suprisingly huge!), expecting to see the blackened and charred remains of a 30 year old capacitor, but all seems visually OK. I'm not sure where to go now as I dont know which part I might potentially need to replace, or how I can even test for faults. I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron (ex car alarm fitter), but am not great at understanding the components- can anyone help or give me some pointers?

Many thanks,
Nick
