Chokesrule,
any news?

I wonder why the tweeter is under the mid wich is quite high mounted, any purpose here? I've seen this kind of speakers but with the mid just under the tweeter.

Default no news

Hi, i have got the tripath 2050 here infront of me, but it needs 24v dc so I am awaiting another sealed lead acid battery to link in series to power it. ....it is very very well made: full of nice caps ....I will test it on my proac signatures....its got to be good .....so I think I will order another 2 so I can triamp on the endorphins........I am still waiting on some 2.2 uh inductors got the capacitors......and am still going to order the three tripath 2020 from the dutch guy, but the boards just do not look as well made as the 2050's....bear with me I think it is going to take about another 3 weeks to get it all sorted and make a judgement ...I WILL REPORT...you have my word...
why he has that wierd layout???? I am not sure. I can only think that the 8" cones can fill the room more with sound....incidently the saba far out perform the proacs...it just at the moment the endorphins are missing something....it may also be because my 2 power amps find it very hard to drive 6 in number of 4 ohm speakers inked in parrallel....hence why I want the three boards.....

I'm really happy with my Endorphine speakers... I've replaced 8" Greencones with cheap Philips AD80800 and I find the sound more open, airy and detailed
Tweeters are Saba (filter caps are two 2uF paralleled PIO Sprague Vitamine Q); Eminence Gamma woofers.
Amp is a diy TA2020; diy TDA1543 based dac; transport is a tweaked Philips cd723. Braided CAT5 cables.

Hi. I've lived with P17 for couple of moths. Some recordings sound best on these speakers, others sound crap. Especially piano.

Problems that I've noticed:

1)P17's box is too deep. It gives pipe resonance at about 150hz.

2) One woofer in small baffle will NEVER be efficient enough below 100hz. Sorry

3) tweeter needs to be attenuated.

4) there is always a hole in response at about 5khz but it's not all that bad.

Possible solutions:

1) Make the box shallower - about 15-20cm like in MJK's projects. It also requires changes in bass xover. You could also go with P19 with 20cm wings.
4ohm is very good. It gives you 3db more output than 8ohm.

2)3) Series resistors on Greencones. I'd start with 10-20ohm on tweeter and 4ohm on midrange.

If you look for it, there a hint on lampizators site that he actually USES series resistors if he HAS to but the max allowed value is 4ohm.

4) I did try to overcome it with smaller coil on midrange - 0.2mH but than it sounds harsh. I suggest staying with 0.4-0.5mH.

Final word: Please dont be affraid of resistors. Lukasz with his gigantic bass baffles can afford this luxury. We can't.

Have fun !!

Well I wonder what's the point after all, a jazz-band-o-phone only?

And some of you can point and compare to other classic speakers they owned? More and more I feel it's the wrong way for me... sorry for high-jacking the thread :'(

I like reading Lukasz' site, but he does present his findings as "ABSOLUTELY BEST EVER" and such, and there is just no such thing. He has passion but he's also arrogant.

No. I think it's worth of building. It is not universal but vocals, strings, brass are to die for ! Really.

But you really NEED to use resistors to get balanced sound. If you use them, you don't have to make that deep box to get more bass.

Another advise is to lower speakers a bit. There is no need to make them that high. I'd say 110cm is perfect. Lower driver should be on ear height.

P21 is nice.

Your resistors attenuates the Greencones? If so on active bi amping it's the same as lowering the gain of the GC's amp?
And the P21 answer my question, mid can be under.
